Why you should be using a heart rate monitor when working out

When  it comes to working out, many people fail to realize the importance of monitoring their heart rate and the benefits it can have on the results you receive at the end of your workout. Wearing a heart rate monitor is an easy way to keep track of your heart rate without doing a manual calculation or remembering to utilize the heart rate monitor on a piece of gym equipment.  

        When working out people should always try and hit their target heart rate and maintain it. The target heart rate is the beats per minute of the heart that you should achieve while working out. To find your recommended maximum heart rate you take the number 220 and subtract it by you age. To get the most out of your workout, your target heart rate should stay between 50-85% of your maximum heart rate. Exercising within your target heart rate will allow you to achieve a proper intensity in your workout which will give you the optimal cardio workout as well as the burn optimal amount of calories. Monitoring your heart rate will help will also determine if you are under training or overtraining, which neither are good. If you are overtraining you can put yourself at risk of collapse or injury. If you are under training, you will be missing out on the health benefits you could be getting and will result in an inefficient workout. This is why a heart rate monitor is so important; you will always be able to check what your current heart rate is so you know if you should pick up the intensity or try and dial it back a bit. If you are trying to improve your cardiovascular endurance then a heart rate monitor is a must because it tracks exactly what you are trying to do.

        Heart rate monitors are something that everyone should have and remember to wear when exercising. They are an essential part of helping to improve you fitness level and overall reach your training goals.
