Carotid Doppler

The Carotid Doppler test may be recommended for anyone experiencing numbness, syncope (faintness), or vertigo (dizzy spells). This test is generally performed when the physician suspects clotting in the carotid arteries located on either side of the neck.

A carotid duplex ultrasound is an imaging procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to view the carotid arteries and to determine the presence of narrowing. The technology is similar to that of an echocardiogram. The purpose of a Carotid Artery Sonogram is to assess the stroke risk from carotid artery stenosis or narrowing of the carotid arteries.

Most insurance companies allow one annual carotid Doppler test, which can be performed in our North Babylon or Middle Island office.
