Preparing For Your Electrophysiological Prodecure

Electrophysiology Study/Ablation

Review all your medications with your doctor prior to the procedure as some of these listed may interfere:

  • Atenolol
  • Metoprolol
  • Nadolol
  • Carvedilol
  • Dilitiazem
  • Verapamil
  • Digoxin

If you are on blood thinners (Aspirin, Plavix Warfarin/Coumadin, etc.) please speak with your doctor prior to the procedure.

Implantation of Pacemaker/Defibrillator/Loop Recorder

If you are on blood thinners (Aspirin, Plavix Warfarin/Coumadin) please speak with your doctor prior to the procedure. On the day of your procedure, take your medications with a sip of water.

Cardioversion/Transesophageal Echocardiogram

If you are on blood thinners (Aspirin, Plavix Warfarin/Coumadin) please speak with your doctor prior to the procedure. On the day of your procedure, take your medications with a sip of water.

Preparing For Your Cath, PTCA, or Angiogram

Cardiac CATH, PTCA or Angiogram

DO NOT eat anything from midnight the night before.

  • STOP diuretics (Lasix, Furosemide, Bmex, HCT3) the day before.
  • Bring your current medications with you.
  • If you are diabetic, DO NOT take your medications the morning of, take them with you to the hospital.
  • NO Glucophage, Metformin products for two days following the procedure.
  • AVOID heavy lifting or straining for two days.
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home as you CANNOT DRIVE the day of the procedure.
  • Drink plenty of fluids following your procedure.

Call us if you develop any swelling, pain or bleeding at the access site (groin, arm, wrist, etc).

Preparing For Your Stress Thallium Testing

Stress Thallium Testing

It is your responsibility to bring a referral unless otherwise instructed.

  • Please wear loose, warm and comfortable clothes and rubber sole shoes or sneakers and preferably two piece clothing like pants and buttoned shirt. Please note the office is cold.
  • Do not wear any body lotion on your chest area.
  • Do not eat for four hours prior to your scheduled test time.
  • If you are insulin dependent, please bring your insulin with you.
  • From the night before to the end of the day of the test, do not eat or drink anything containing caffeine such as coffee, tea, soda or chocolate.
  • Please bring a light lunch and drink (water, juice or milk) with you because testing is very long and you will have a break.
  • You can take your regular medications including high blood pressure medications unless otherwise advised by your doctor.
  • If you are diabetic, you must get separate instructions. Please advise staff.
  • Please be aware the test is approximately four hours long.
  • There are no cellular phones allowed during the study.

If you are unable to keep your appointment, kindly give 24-hour notice. Very costly medications are ordered specifically for your test. If proper notice is not given, you may receive a bill for the cost of the medication ordered.
